Pros: Had an awesome team, deeply dedicated to their domain of expertise. Loved the work I did with them.
The pay and benefits were really good comparatively to other companies.
Did I say how awesome the ICs and my team was.... great, kind, humble (most of them anyway)
Cons: My new boss was toxic: I was screamed at, humiliated, and gaslit for; 6 months. I dropped 30 pounds from the stress and was throwing up every morning when my boss called threatening my career and livelihood. I was a high performer under my prior boss, the only difference now - the CVP above me that I reported to. They were a terror.
CVP purposefully set out to destroy our team. Cut our team resources to nothing and then demanded we hit the same KPIs/ "Do more with less". CVP withheld critical information to make the team look less effective than other parts of their business. Very nasty/intentional -- played a game of favoritism and game of thrones. Very political.
HR is often weaponized by underperformers - those people then abuse managers through blind survey or filing illegitimate complaints.. No one ever held accountable for filing BS claims - can say nasty things about you and degrade you; while their lawyers try to extort the company for money. Ugly game. HR does nothing to protect front line manager. HR irrelevant and not helpful, only objectives - protect the company and $ -- use a corrupt process.
Became concerned for my safety and my family's safety as one employee that was mentally unhealthy threatened me personally.
The most toxic environment imaginable.
Glad to be away from you Microsoft. Hope no one else will ever experience what I did..

Pros: Good growth opportunity early in career. Good people and team culture is good with teammates wanting to collaborate and help each other.
Cons: Microsoft is consistently running small RIFs throughout the company. A lot of people or on edge because of it.
Mentorship culture is non-existent. Harder to grow at senior levels unless super motivated to learn what higher levels need to do to succeed.

Pros: Great benefits as a part Great work life balance Great people great culture and love the work I do No micro management in the team
Cons: Contract staff had obvious less benefits than permanent staff. No Work Life Balance if role is regional role People here are nice but the work environment is incredibly political which can make it difficult to do your job effectively. I wish that HR had acted sooner to remove this manager as the company lost many employees due to the culture she created after a reorg. Can get political and slow process improvements since management is constantly changing.
No premiums for medical. Company covers entire household. The benefits is pretty good. Total package is not. Amazing health insurance and personal travel benefits with car rentals and hotels and airlines

Pros: The health insurance benefits were by far the biggest plus.
Cons: In terms of tech, MSFT's pay was often lower than other companies due to "its great culture". Things like work life balance, job security, and insurance were big selling a points. However, culture is not real world currency and culture quickly shifts depending on your org or the company priorities. The main selling points for receiving lower pay seemed to fade away over the years. Great mangers are crucial but certain orgs have more bad mangers and leadership than good ones. It makes the chances of getting a good manger, a good team, and good leadership very rare. but it's great for those who can get the trifecta.
