Pros: Great benefits including free college degree through ASU - a great place to work for high school and college ages. Some growth opportunities within the company, and when it's a good day, it's a really good day.
Cons: Inconsistent scheduling, lack of communication through the chain of command, overworking good employees and not addressing bad employee behavior. Upper management try to 'help' on the cafe floor when they come to check in, but it more often hurts than helps, and then don't do their actual job that would help the bad situations.

Don't take advantage of the green apron workers. They are not paid enough for the cruel customer attitudes. If you are trying to take care of your employees, stop bending over backwards for awful and cruel customers who are berating your employees. Outside hires should have a longer training period than an internal hire/promotion. Too many outside hire managers I've worked with can't properly manage a store when they aren't familiar with or know how to do their baristas duties. (This point is not for the manager to do the role of a barista, but when there is a deeper understanding of the role itself there is more clarity on what needs to be communicated and improved. A barista will have less respect for upper management who tells them what to do when the barista knows the job better than they do.)

  • Dependent on locationShift Supervisor | Brooklyn, NY

    Salary - | Culture - | Management - | Coworkers - D

Pros: Decent benefits available, and seemingly opportunity to grow (assuming you’d want to)
Cons: Experience heavily depends on location. Almost impossible to ban anyone from the store, even if they threaten you with bodily harm. Supervisors often face a choice of working off the clock or being completely unprepared for the day. Upheavals in management leave a lot of bad managers with a lot of power/little oversight. Mobile ordering is terrible and creates more problems than can be articulated here.

Stop expecting employees to put up with daily threats of bodily harm. Either change your policies or start putting security in locations that need them.

Pros: Good insurance and benefits, as well as weekly cash tips.
Cons: Difficult to obtain a consistent work schedule unless you’re a tenured partner.

In my experience, I’ve noticed that partners promoted from within the company, to management, have had more success than outside hires.
