Pros: Pay is competitive, work is fairly consistent, tuition reimbursement
Cons: Lots of nepotism/favoritism, diversity is lacking, no flexibility, no opportunities for advancement
My coworkers are prone to cliques, management does not listen to concerns and are incompetent when it came to policy and job politics. There is a clear nurse centric environment and the people in those positions often come out on top with better benefits and opportunities for better pay. For instance there is an incentive to get your operating room certification. You are rewarded for it although it's not necessary to do your job. There is a revolving door turnover rate because the hours are inflexible and time off requests are not often honored even if there is advance notice. There is seemingly no consequence for workplace bullying and the opportunities for advancement are non-existent. Although there is a union, you get punished for being in one. For example, the pay benefits for non-union employees are much higher than those of union employees and the current pay was a fight to get. There is no pay incentive for non-nurse employees for furthering your education.
