Pros: Decent pay currently negotiating union for changes Good benefits and the people who are NOT higher up are great to work with. Great people to work with good work life balance as a postdoc Northwestern's campus is beautiful and its faculty are great to work with.
Cons: Low pay unless you start getting into senior scientist positions; but that's the same for almost all academia positions No benefits Many people are leaving due to burnout. Work life balance can get a bit difficult due to the high pressure nature of applying for receiving and managing as much grant funding as possible.
Good health insurance 401k match after one year of employment Pays for housing and food Compared to other universities monthly health insurance is expensive and the wait times to see a provider at NM are 6+ months. Didn't find the insurance coverage to be particularly good; surely doesn't compensate for the low salaries.

Health benefits are stellar! Blue Cross/Blue Shield - top of the line. Low premiums and co-pay. Educational benefits are also good. Dependents get 60% off after the employee works there for three years. Employees get 90% off education if they pursue a grad degree after working there for three years. The tax bill is high though.
