I learned a lot about the IT manufacturing business and expanded my skill set. There are numerous social events to interact with other employees throughout the company both local and online.
I was told on a Monday morning that Thursday would be my last day due to "workforce reduction". The company works its employees hard including weekends and evenings. Even though you are told when you first start there that they encourage employees to move around within the company every 1 1/2 - 2 years, I was discouraged to do so by my supervisor. I told him during one of our 1x1 meetings that I'd like to find another role within the company to expand my skills and was "laid off" 2 weeks later. Very convenient. I know quite a few other co-workers that have been laid off from Dell.
Treat your employees like they are people, not numbers. I will never work for Dell again.
A - Salary & Benefits | B - Culture | A - Management | C - Coworkers
Salary - B | Culture - D | Management - D | Coworkers - C
Pros: Good benefits, 2 IVF cycles covered, 16 weeks paid parental leave, can take up to 4 additional out of PTO. Sharp coworkers. Good work life balance for the pay.
Cons: The reversal of Michael Dell's 2022 "work from anywhere, remote work is here to stay" to 2024 not allowing remote workers to change jobs or pursue promotions is gut punch for my career. Also Dell has laid off 20,000 people in 2024 and not issued any public statements or statements within the company fro C-level on why. Honestly 1 year ago I would have had a glowing review, this has all changed in 2024.
Be more transparent on the strategy and why you are doing layoffs
